Western New York meeting

Western New York had a very informative meeting last month at SUNY Geneseo. It was held in conjunction with a beautiful show called "Exquisite Corpse", in the student union of the college. Many SAQA NY members contributed to this wonderful show.

Fourteen members attended the meeting. There was show and tell, where the variety of talent was wonderfully obvious to all. There was a discussion about how SAQA could better serve Western New York. We had a luncheon catered by the college, where the discussions continued.

After the luncheon, Pat Pauly (recently accepted to Quilt National '11, congratulations Pat!) had a slide show presentation, which was very informative to all who attended. This show was open to the meeting attendees, as well as anyone else who wished to come from the college. Her humerous style kept us all at full attention for an hour. If you have not heard Pat give a presentation, make sure, if given the chance you take advantage of hearing her speak.

I would like to thank Marcia DeCamp for her photos posted here.

NY SAQA Featured Artist of the Month, Karen Loprete

Since childhood Karen has been pursuing her creative self. After college, graduate school and years of working in the graphic design profession, Karen found working with fiber most satisfying.

Karen now devotes her time to her passion for stitching with her expressive use of color and texture creating artwork that is uniquely hers.

“I am an artist who chooses to express my passions for the many moods of color and texture through quiltmaking. Making art is how I cope. My escape. My salvation.”

Known for her extensive handwork and color choices, Karen Loprete creates one of a kind artworks to hang or hang out with.

Karen is  a member of the Studio Art Quilt Associates, Connecticut Piecemakers and the Valley Arts Council which have all proven to be valuable ways to connect with like-minded people.
Her  work has been shown and is hanging across the world!  Karen states "This is a very exciting aspect for me – imagining the joy I might be spreading".
